About Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK)

Disability Snowsport UK’s Vision

Our vision is of mountains and ski slopes free from barriers. We believe that all people have the right to access the unique physical, mental, and social benefits of snowsport, regardless of disability, injury, or experience. This vision drives our mission to promote equal access to skiing and snowboarding for disabled people, ensuring that everyone can experience the joy and freedom that these sports offer.

Our Operations

DSUK operates ski schools at various locations throughout the UK and delivers opportunities to ski and snowboard in mountain environments worldwide. Supported by a fantastic team of highly qualified adaptive instructors and a network of passionate and skilled volunteers, we work tirelessly to ensure that everybody has the opportunity to access snowsport. Our instructors are trained in adaptive techniques, allowing them to provide tailored support to each participant, while our volunteers enhance our community spirit and assist in various capacities.

Our Proud History

With over forty years of experience, DSUK has been at the forefront of adaptive snowsport in the UK. Our journey began in the 1970s when David Morris, a consultant paediatrician, recognised the benefits of skiing for young people with Cerebral Palsy (CP). Despite initial resistance, a pilot scheme demonstrated incredible benefits, leading to the establishment of the Uphill Ski Club in the 1980s. This independent charity enabled not just those with CP but all disabled people to access snowsport.

The 1990s and early 2000s saw further expansion of our activities. In 2005, the Uphill Ski Club merged with the National Handicapped Skiers Association and Scotland’s Alternative Skiers, reflecting our growing scope. By 2007, we had adopted the name Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK), symbolising our commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of all disabled skiers and snowboarders.

Being part of The Northern Snow Show aligns perfectly with our mission and values. The event is a celebration of winter sports, drawing enthusiasts from all parts of the snowsport community. For DSUK, this event is an opportunity to highlight the importance of inclusivity in snowsport and to showcase the opportunities available to disabled people.

The Northern Snow Show provides a platform to connect with a diverse audience, including potential clients, supporters and volunteers. It’s an excellent opportunity to share our story, inspire others, and foster partnerships that will help us continue to break down barriers in the snowsport world.
