Shred Art came about as a long held love of Snowboarding and a rekindled love for painting began to merge back in 2008. Prior to that I’d spent about 10 years working in the design and print industry which feed my need to go shred! My love for snow goes further back to childhood winters when it actually snowed! Sledding with family and small nips of carrot whiskey to stay warm seemed like a yearly thing.
Starting to paint again was an exploration of self but I soon found myself painting snowboarders and mountains. Curious as to how good I could get and a deep sense of joy I felt in the act of painting was comparable to that of snowboarding. So I delved right in. Being a certain vintage and having commitments I lived out my shred fantasies though paint. Things developed, things happened, notably a few snowboard graphics, book cover and some magazine coverage.
Like so many in 2020 profound life changes occurred, having dealt with a drawn out situation and spending sometime healing, adjusting and formulating a way forward for myself and my art.
The cornerstone of what I do is to paint original pieces of art on canvas aiming to capture the energy of snowboarding (occasionally a skier) and some mountain mysticism. Playing in a more digital graphical way recently has been a great outlet for my creativity and for skills I’ve not used in time. I’ve been developing a range of designs and will be releasing a new line of apparel which I am excited about.
Having done many shows I’m stoked to be a part of ‘The Northern Snow Show’ a real on snow event put on by passionate snow enthusiasts for snow enthusiasts. I will have a selection of original paintings, limited edition artist prints and clothing available over the weekend.
